Showing children our traditional lands and giving them opportunities to connect to country is one of the important roles of Jawoyn rangers and land managers.

In this year’s mid-year school holidays, about 20 children joined the Jawoyn culture camp at Nitmiluk.

Over four days the children did bushwalking with the rangers and Jawoyn elders, and also got plenty of time to fish and canoe.

Jawoyn Ranger Steven Andrews says working with the children and showing them the plants and animals is always fun.

“We always enjoy walking and canoeing, especially at our awesome Nitmiluk gorge,” Steven said.

“It’s a busy time, but the kids have a lot of fun.”
