The Jawoyn Association has welcomed the Administrator of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran, to Jawoyn country.

Her visit is part of an official two day tour of the Katherine region.

As her first engagement, the Administrator attended morning tea hosted by members of the Jawoyn Association at Nitmiluk’s Cicada Lodge.

“It was a real privilege to make new friendships with members of the Jawoyn Association,“ Her Honour said.

“We spoke about many topics close to the hearts of the Jawoyn people, including sisterhood, preserving culture, bush medicine, and the power of storytelling.

“Many current and emerging leaders from the community are working hard to improve the lives of their people and caring for their traditional lands is a major part of this.”

Jawoyn chair Lisa Mumbin was part of the group welcoming her honour.

“It was wonderful to be able to welcome the Administrator and tell her of all the work we are doing on country and in the region,” Ms Mumbin said.

“Our Jawoyn elders and women rangers and members from the Banatjarl Strongbala Wimuns Grup were happy to be able to share their stories with Her Honour.

“We look forward to the opportunity to welcome her back to our country again in 2019.”

During her visit to Katherine, the Administrator will meet with a number of other community organisations including the Katherine Women’s Information and Legal Service, the Katherine Men’s Shed and Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Services.

She will also visit the Katherine Museum, the Godinymayin Yijard Regional Art and Culture Centre and local schools.
