All eyes were on Nitmiluk Gorge when it became the finish line for the popular Channel 10 series The Amazing Race Australia.

The Amazing Race Australia follows teams of two, including Darwin couple Jerome and Jasmin, as they ping ponged around the globe in an attempt to be the first to cross the finish line and win $250,000.

The final leg of the race had the final three teams racing from Darwin’s Waterfront to Nitmiluk as the Top End became the battleground of the last set of challenges before they crossed the finish line in Nitmiluk gorge.

For staff at Nitmiluk Tours, the day of filming was the culmination of weeks planning, as well as keeping everything top secret confidential.

Nitmiluk Tours Sales and Reservation Manager Trish Waddey was one of the staff who helped to coordinate resources, access and transport for the production and the contestants.

“Behind the scenes it was somewhat organised chaos as the exact timing of when contestants arrived was not possible,” Ms Waddey said.

“We had boat drivers to transfer the crew and pick the puzzle pieces up, as well as the eliminated contestants and the host as well as manage the helicopter and helipad and then of course we had to get everyone back in the afternoon.

“Nitmiluk Tours Guides were also in ‘filming boats’ while the canoe challenge was underway.

“The catering team catered for the cast and crew of approximately 80 people for the day.

“We all had to keep what happened a secret and it was rewarding to see it finally air and see how one day of filming was put together.

“Importantly, we are always thrilled when we see beautiful Nitmiluk showcased.”

The finale aired on December 3 and was won by recently-married couple Tim and Rod.
